Welcome to the hybrid Journal Club!

After a long pause due, again, to covid, the journal club "Quantum black holes on the plateau" will restart in a brand new, hybrid mode

where: IPhT, CEA Saclay and on-line

when:  every other Friday at 2:15 p.m.

topics:  recent papers related to the quantum structure of black holes, bulk EFT, Page curves, etc.

how it works:
one person prepares a presentation, and everyone else reads the paper and prepares for a discussion. Papers can either be chosen from the suggested readings on this website, or the speaker can come up with his/her own paper to read, which should fit with the general topic of the journal club.

practical:

  • directions to the IPhT can be found here
  • the room will either be amphi Bloch or salle Itzykson, both on the IPhT  ground floor, depending on covid-related restrictions
  • wearing a mask is compulsory, except for the speaker
  • internet is provided via eduroam or orme-enregistrement/access
  • outside participants who would like to spend the entire day at the IPhT can contact  Monica for lunch arrangements
  • the videoconferencing link and password for the on-line participants will be sent by e-mail to those registered to the JC mailing list
  • the JC will not be recorded

The first three journal clubs are:

  • the JC on “Massive Islands” by Geng and Karch, arXiv:2006.02438 and “Inconsistency of Islands in Theories with Long-Range Gravity” by Geng, Karch, Perez-Pardavilla, Raju, Randall, Riojas, Shashi  arXiv:2107.03390  will be rescheduled

Additional background reading: "The CFT/AdS correspondence, massive gravitons and a connectivity index conjecture” by Aharony, Clark, Karch, hep-th/0608089  and  “The page curve of Hawking radiation from semiclassical geometry” by Almheiri, Mahajan, Maldacena, Zhao, arXiv:1908.10996

some additional suggested reading (more ideas welcome!):

  •  "Chaotic scattering of highly excited strings", by Gross and Rosenhaus,
    arXiv:2103.15301
